Robot parent
No laptop. The child is the programmer. You are the robot. You obey only the words they say — not what they meant. That is how computers work, and it is how debugging starts.
Do this after Story Studio Week 1 pictures: open the storybook.
1. Warm-up (3 min)
Clap a 3-beat pattern. Child copies. Switch: child invents, you copy. That is a sequence.
2. Program the robot (8 min)
Stand on a towel “start square.” Child gives 4 commands from this list only: step, turn, sit, wave. You do them in order, even if you walk into a chair. Then ask: “Which command should we change?” Change one. Run again. Celebrate the fix, not a perfect first try.
3. Draw the program (4 min)
Four boxes on paper. Child draws a stick figure for each command. Read the boxes left to right. That is an algorithm you can see.
4. Engineering bonus (5 min)
Build a tower of exactly 5 blocks. Blow once. If it falls, change the base — don’t just stack taller. Ask → build → improve.
