How to Homeschool in California
A plain-English starting point for California families: the legal basics, a simple first week, and an online K–12 curriculum built to help you meet homeschool requirements.
Step 1: Know California's homeschool basics
In short: Choose one option: file a Private School Affidavit with the CA Dept. of Education each year (filing window Oct 1–15), enroll in a private school satellite program (PSP), or use a tutor who holds a California teaching credential.
For the current statute, deadlines, and forms, see HSLDA's California homeschool law page. Statewide support group: Homeschool Association of California, CHEA of California.
This is a general summary, not legal advice. Homeschool laws change, and following them is the parent's responsibility. Check HSLDA or your state's education department before you start.
