How to Homeschool in Georgia
A plain-English starting point for Georgia families: the legal basics, a simple first week, and an online K–12 curriculum built to help you meet homeschool requirements.
Step 1: Know Georgia's homeschool basics
In short: The teaching parent needs a high school diploma or GED. Submit a Declaration of Intent within 30 days of starting and by Sept 1 each year, teach 180 days of 4.5 hours, write an annual progress report, and test every three years from the end of grade 3.
For the current statute, deadlines, and forms, see HSLDA's Georgia homeschool law page. Statewide support group: GHEA.
This is a general summary, not legal advice. Homeschool laws change, and following them is the parent's responsibility. Check HSLDA or your state's education department before you start.
