How to Homeschool in Ohio
A plain-English starting point for Ohio families: the legal basics, a simple first week, and an online K–12 curriculum built to help you meet homeschool requirements.
Step 1: Know Ohio's homeschool basics
In short: Send a notification of intent to your district superintendent by August 30 each year (or within 5 days of starting or moving in). Cover English language arts, math, science, history, government, and social studies. No hours, parent qualifications, or assessment are required.
For the current statute, deadlines, and forms, see HSLDA's Ohio homeschool law page. Statewide support group: CHEO.
This is a general summary, not legal advice. Homeschool laws change, and following them is the parent's responsibility. Check HSLDA or your state's education department before you start.
