How to Homeschool in Washington
A plain-English starting point for Washington families: the legal basics, a simple first week, and an online K–12 curriculum built to help you meet homeschool requirements.
Step 1: Know Washington's homeschool basics
In short: File an annual declaration of intent by September 15, meet one parent-qualification option, teach 180 days or average 1,000 hours, cover required subjects, and complete an annual test or assessment (kept in your records).
For the current statute, deadlines, and forms, see HSLDA's Washington homeschool law page. Statewide support group: Washington Homeschool Organization.
This is a general summary, not legal advice. Homeschool laws change, and following them is the parent's responsibility. Check HSLDA or your state's education department before you start.
