Online 7th grade math tutor
Seventh grade is the bridge to algebra: negative numbers, proportional relationships, percent problems, and solving equations. Gaps here show up loudly in 8th grade and Algebra 1.

What usually trips up 7th graders
- Integer rules. “Two negatives make a positive” gets misapplied everywhere. We use a number line and money owed so the rules make sense.
- Proportional reasoning. Unit rates, scale drawings, and tables. We connect them so it's one idea, not four.
- Percent problems. Tax, tip, discount, percent change. We set up the same equation every time.
- Two-step equations. Doing the same thing to both sides, and why it works.
- Showing work. Many 7th graders can do it in their head but lose points. We practice writing clean steps.
Confidence matters at this age
A lot of middle schoolers decide they're “not a math person” right here. A patient adult, one to one, can change that quickly.
Who you'll work with
I'm David Clifford, the one person behind Life Academy. I've tutored for 8 years, worked as a substitute teacher for Pasco County Schools (including long-term assignments), and hold a BAS degree, cum laude. Every session is live, 1:1, with me, on Zoom or Google Meet. No AI tutor, no handoff to someone else.
Price
$35/hour. Your first full hour is $25. A 4-hour bundle is $130. Book at least 24 hours ahead; a free 15-minute consult is available first. Tutoring is sold separately from the homeschool plans. See the refund policy.
Not ready to book? Two free ways to see how I teach: free Math Office Hours (grades 2–8, a 30-minute live drop-in every Tuesday at 8 PM ET) and the free Week 1 of every grade in the Life Academy classroom, no card needed.
Questions parents ask
Is 7th grade math the same as pre-algebra?
Mostly. Seventh grade covers integers, proportions, expressions, and equations, which are the core of pre-algebra.
How many sessions does a 7th grader usually need?
It depends on the gap. Some students need one session on a topic; others do weekly sessions for a quarter. The 4-hour bundle ($130) is a good starting block.
What does it cost?
$35/hour. The first full hour is $25, and a 4-hour bundle is $130.
Is there a free option?
Yes. Free Math Office Hours run Tuesdays at 8 PM ET for grades 2–8, and Week 1 of every grade in the Life Academy classroom is free.
