Citation Generator

Fill in what you know about your source and get a correctly formatted MLA, APA, or Chicago citation. Save citations to a list, then copy or print your Works Cited page.

Learn How it works

A generator saves time, but you are responsible for checking it. Look at the source's title page or the top of the web page to find the author, title, and date. Then compare your result with the examples in the MLA or APA guide.

  • Type authors one per line as First Last. The generator reverses names for you.
  • Leave a box blank if the source doesn't have that information.
  • Titles in italics stay italic when you copy and paste into Google Docs or Word.

Practice Check yourself

Answer, then tap Check. You get an explanation either way.

  1. You saved a website citation, but it has no author. In MLA, what does the entry begin with?

  2. Why should you double-check a generated citation?
