Thesis Statement Builder

A thesis is the one-sentence answer to your essay question. A strong thesis is arguable (someone could disagree), specific, and supportable with evidence.

Learn How it works

Formula: Topic + claim (your position) + because + reason 1, reason 2, and reason 3.

Weak: Social media is a thing many teens use.
It's a fact, not a claim. No one would argue.
Strong: Teens should limit social media to one hour a day because it improves sleep, focus, and face-to-face friendships.
Weak: In this essay I will talk about the Civil War.
Announces a topic but makes no claim.
Strong: The Union won the Civil War mainly because of its factories, railroads, and larger population.
